Elizabeth (Betsy) Meier earned her Master of Social Work degree from Grand Valley State University. She has provided mental health counseling to individuals, families, and groups, with a focus on survivors of trauma, including but not limited to child sexual abuse, sexual assault/rape, domestic violence, and community violence. She has worked in multiple non-profit outpatient settings, as well as a maximum-security men’s prison. Meier has taught the RCGV course offering PSY 316 Children Exposed to Domestic Violence: Promoting Resiliency, which explores the prevalence, context, and impact of domestic abuse on children, and strategies for promoting resiliency.
Meier is currently working on her dissertation, which is a constructivist grounded theory study investigating moral injury and institutional betrayal among combat veterans who served in enlisted leadership positions. Meier is also currently working with Dr. Rebecca Campbell and Dr. Katie Gregory on qualitative coding of survivor and stakeholder interviews for the Sexual Assault Kit Initiative Research Project, a multidisciplinary study of Kalamazoo’s untested rape kits.
