Message from the Directors

Dear RCGV Members,

Happy New Year RCGV Community!

Welcome to the Spring 2025 Semester!  We are writing to share some important updates about RCGV and exciting opportunities for this semester!

With gratitude,

Becki Campbell and Katie Gregory

RCGV's founding director, Dr. Cris Sullivan, retired from MSU and her position as RCGV's director on December 1, 2024.

Drs. Rebecca (Becki) Campbell and Katie Gregory have been appointed as new co-directors.

In case you are asking yourself, ‘Oh my goodness, did I miss an announcement or a retirement party?’ You did not. Consistent with Dr. Sullivan’s wishes regarding her retirement plans, there were no major announcements, fanfare, or parties. She passed the leadership torch for RCGV to Becki and Katie, and we are honored to continue her work. We are profoundly grateful to Cris for founding and building a community of social justice scholars committed to ending gender-based violence of faculty and students, and we will use all we’ve learned from her to grow RCGV.

As part of the transition process, we have requested two new tenure track faculty lines for RCGV!

We can never replace Cris, but we do want to continue to grow RCGV.  To that end, we worked with the Chairs of the Department of Psychology and the Department of Human Development and Family Studies to request two faculty lines from the College of Social Science.  One position request is for an associate professor in psychology, the other position request is a senior assistant professor in HDFS.  Many thanks to Dr. Megan Maas from HDFS for working with us on this proposal.  We should hear back from the College in Spring 2025 as to whether the requests have been approved.  If so, we would be conducting an open national search in Fall 2025.

We'd like to hear from you about how we can grow and develop RCGV.

In Spring 2025, we will be hosting ‘dreamstorming’ meetings for RCGV faculty, students, and staff to develop ideas and plans for the future of RCGV.  Shout out and acknowledgement to the Fall 2024 RCGV Invited Speaker Dr. Jennifer Gomez from Boston University School of Social Work for teaching us about the concept of ‘dreamstorming. More information about these meetings will be coming soon.

We would love to promote the work of RCGV faculty, student, and staff.

In Spring 2025, we have the opportunity to expand a project created by Dr. Katie Gregory and the Michigan Victim Advocacy Network that promotes translating research into practice. The MiVAN “Paper to Practice” Project is a video podcast series in which faculty/students share the results of current published paper for practitioners and policy makers. RCGV will cover the costs of creating SIX new Papers to Practice episodes featuring new work from RCGV members. More information about this project will be coming soon.
