Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs)

Project Overview
The Michigan State University College of Nursing was awarded funding from the Health Resource and Services Administration (HRSA) to support education and certification of nurses interested in becoming Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs) in Michigan.
Digging Deeper
The purpose of this project is to:
- Increase access to adult/adolescent SANE services in underrepresented areas in Michigan by financially supporting a diverse group of nurses throughout the process of SANE training and certification
- Increase access to adult/adolescent SANE education opportunities through new training options and a resource toolkit with a variety of options to meet practice hours
- Facilitate community “think-tanks” with multidisciplinary stakeholders to identify barriers for the training, practice, collaboration, and sustainability of SANE program
These aims will be achieved by recruiting and funding nurses to complete SANE training, re-engaging nurses who previously participated in SANE didactic training, but did not complete certification, and identifying community barriers to sustainability of SANE practice.
