Pooley, Apryl E., PhD

Apryl Pooley is the Director of Training and Technical Assistance for the Michigan Victim Advocacy Network (www.mivan.org), a statewide project that supports crime victim advocates by offering trauma-informed training, networking opportunities, and other tools for working with victims/survivors.

Dr. Pooley is an expert trauma consultant, trainer, and qualified expert witness who holds a PhD in Neuroscience from Michigan State University where she researched the neurobiology of trauma. Having published research using neurofeedback to treat trauma in domestic violence survivors and on the therapeutic potential of yoga in trauma survivors, Pooley’s training curriculum draws from evidence-based practice and practice-based evidence. Dr. Pooley has trained victim advocates, prosecuting attorneys, healthcare professionals, adult protective services workers, multidisciplinary sexual assault response teams, and other community service providers on the neurobiology of trauma, trauma-informed approaches, vicarious trauma, and more—with a goal of helping crime victim and trauma survivor services become more trauma-informed, survivor-centered, and sustainable for those who do this work.
