National Study of Policies and Practices Involving State Level Criminal Justice and Substance Abuse Treatment Sector

Funder: MI Dept of Community Health
PI: Sheryl Kubiak
Dates: 2010 – 2012
Through a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Substance Abuse Research Program award, research was conducted to examine the interface between public systems in the organization and funding of substance abuse treatment services for those involved in the criminal justice system. The RWJ awards resulted in several publications (Arfken & Kubiak, 2007; Kubiak, S.P. & Arfken, C.L., 2008; Kubiak, S.P., Arfken, C.L. & Gibson, E.S., 2009; Kubiak, S.P., Tillander, E. & Arfken, C.L., under review). The findings have been rather complex, but we have written and disseminated reports for each of the states that were involved in our ‘case studies’ N=8), as well as creating a cumulative report for national dissemination (e.g., meetings with the National Governors’ Association; the National Conference on State Legislators; etc.).
